Looked Down on by In-Laws, He Returns as Their New Boss

Chapter 9 — Gerald's Last Stand

Gerald Hargrove did not sleep for a single minute during the longest and darkest night of his entire corporate career.

Ryan knew this for a fact because his internal security contacts reported that the lights in Gerald's office burned until dawn.

The emergency board meeting was convened in the same massive glass boardroom where Ryan had once delivered basic procurement updates.

The room was packed with terrified executives, sweating lawyers, and furious institutional investors demanding immediate, ruthless accountability.

Ryan walked through the heavy double doors exactly on time, wearing a bespoke suit that projected pure, unassailable financial power.

The chaotic shouting in the room died instantly as every head turned to look at the man who had orchestrated this bloodbath.

Gerald sat at the head of the table, his skin an unhealthy, pale grey, his silver hair uncharacteristically disheveled and wild.

Brendan sat to his father's right, his hands trembling visibly as he stared at the thick legal documents piled in front of him.

"You have absolutely no right to be in this building," Gerald hissed, his voice hoarse and completely stripped of its usual authority.

"As the owner of thirty-four percent of this company, I have every legal right to be here, Gerald," Ryan replied calmly.

Ryan took a seat at the opposite end of the long table, deliberately occupying the exact chair he had used five years ago.

"The regulatory commission has officially frozen your primary credit lines, and your stock is currently trading at garbage status," Ryan announced.

"This company will be completely insolvent and unable to process basic employee payroll by the end of this current month."

The independent board members murmured in panicked agreement, their angry eyes shifting aggressively toward Gerald and his trembling son.

"This entire crisis is a manufactured, illegal market manipulation tactic designed by a disgruntled former employee!" Gerald shouted desperately to the room.

Before Ryan could even respond, Brendan suddenly stood up, his chair scraping violently against the polished hardwood floor of the boardroom.

"Stop lying to them, Dad!" Brendan screamed, his voice cracking under the crushing, unbearable weight of the looming federal investigation.

The entire boardroom gasped in shock as the golden son publicly turned on the father who had given him everything.

"He forced me to authorize those offshore transfers! He ordered the financial restructuring that caused this entire regulatory nightmare!" Brendan yelled hysterically.

Gerald stared at his son in absolute, horrified betrayal, his mouth opening and closing without producing a single sound.

The formidable Hargrove alliance had completely fractured under the pressure, destroying themselves from the inside exactly as Ryan had calculated.

The lead independent director stood up, slamming his hand down on the glass table to demand immediate order in the room.

"This board will not sink with your family," the director stated coldly, turning his back on Gerald and addressing Ryan directly.

"Mr. Cole, if we vote to immediately remove Gerald and Brendan Hargrove from all executive positions, will your fund stabilize our debt?"

"Meridian Stone Partners will inject fifty million in emergency liquidity the second they are removed from the premises," Ryan confirmed smoothly.

The vote was called immediately, bypassing all standard corporate protocol in the face of absolute financial ruin.

It was completely unanimous.

Gerald tried to speak, tried to summon the commanding presence that had ruled this empire for thirty years, but nothing happened.

Two large corporate security guards entered the boardroom, their expressions stoic as they approached the now-former chairman of the company.

They politely but firmly instructed Gerald and Brendan to gather their personal belongings and immediately vacate the corporate premises.

Ryan sat perfectly still in his chair, watching the devastating scene unfold with a sense of deep, quiet, clinical satisfaction.

He watched Gerald Hargrove walk out of the boardroom in complete disgrace, escorted by the exact same security team he used to command.

Ryan stood up and walked out into the main executive hallway, watching the two men being marched toward the public elevators.

Diana was standing silently near the reception desk, having come to the office to witness the final, inevitable collapse of her family.

Tears were streaming silently down her pale face as she watched her father and brother being publicly humiliated in front of their staff.

She looked at Ryan across the wide expanse of the marble lobby, but he offered no smile, no gloating, and no comfort.

He simply watched the elevator doors slide shut, perfectly mirroring his own exit from this exact building five years ago.
